Hydrogen

Air Liquide has many modes of H2 supply, which are adapted to the specific needs of the Group’s diverse range of customers. Pipeline networks supply large customers that consume significant amounts of H2. H2 cylinders and tube trailers at 200 bar are used for smaller customers. For some specific customers, liquid tanks are constructed onsite and filled regularly by cryogenic liquid trailers.

Cylinders

For gas users who need mobility and/or have volume requirements of less than 5000 m3 per month, gas cylinders can represent an extremely practical method of supplying gas.

Gas cylinders are defined by four main characteristics.

State of gas : compressed gas, refrigerated liquid (CO2, nitrous oxide), dissolved gas (acetylene) or cryogenic liquids.

Purity of gas : up to 99.99999 %.

Type of cylinder: size (volume) and pressure, which differs from one country to another have been the focus of special development.

AIR LIQUIDE has for many years been putting forward innovative solutions in the gas cylinder field in order to improve its safety, economy and ease of use.

Cylinders can be supplied individually or linked together in groups of 9 or 18 interconnected cylinders, which then empty as if they were a single container.

AIR LIQUIDE carries in-house treatments and special packaging procedures to guarantee conformity with specifications. We also undertake regulatory checks and retest cylinders.

Hydrogen station

Air Liquide has participated over the last three years in the creation and commissioning of a number of service stations—one in Madrid, in Spain, and one in Luxembourg, each powering H2 fuel cell buses, as part of the CUTE (Clean Urban Transport for Europe) / Hyfleet project.

The third station, built by Japan Air Gases, a subsidiary of Air Liquide, in Japan, supplies buses and cars with H2. Elsewhere, Air Liquide is operating a test station test at Sassenage (France) on the Air Liquide Advanced Technology Division site, which acts as a test station and a mobile station and is used to perform one-off demonstrations of hydrogen vehicles.
At the same time, Air Liquide is developing and building commercial hydrogen stations for oil companies or motor vehicle manufacturers, the last example of this being the BP hydrogen station in Singapore.

Trucks

The hydrogen is transported in gaseous form (compressed), or liquid form (in insulated tanks). About a thousand dedicated vehicles criss-cross Europe as well as North America.

On Site Generation

AIR LIQUIDE shares your demands and offers you innovative solutions derived from its technological expertise in the field of industrial gases.

A gas supply source which is independent, safe and efficient...

Solutions, which are based on use of advanced technologies, are designed to produce the gases you need instantaneously on your site. On the basis of your process (purity, flow rate, pressure), we design and implement a dedicated solution.

These solutions, which are adapted in real time to your production, paying attention to continuity of supply, permanently guarantee to you that your specifications are met.

HYOS : A Clean, Reliable and Safe Solution

Today's electrolysis technology remains one of the most environmentally friendly solutions to produce Hydrogen.
Fed by demineralised water, HYOS uses only DC current to split water into its basic components: Hydrogen and Oxygen (no CO2 emission).

Pipelines

Air Liquide owns 12 hydrogen pipeline transmission networks worldwide. The largest and the oldest of these are found in Northern Europe and are nearly 1,100 kilometers long. In the United States, Texas and Louisiana also have sizeable networks.
